Fall Term
Yes folks it's that time of year... when this little brown computer consultant returns to the classroom, educating people all over Deschutes County... and parts of Lane County... and parts of Marion County... and parts of Multnomah County... and... oh heck, you get the picture. This is the time of year when my dance card is overly full -- I have an active schedule at Central Oregon Community College, teaching a variety of topics, and loving every minute of it.
Web design. Flash Animation. PowerPoint. The whole Adobe Creative Suite. Microsoft Office. But with my known-to-be-goofy nature, I prefer to teach interesting and not boring classes, so I find ways to make the potentially driest topics sound fun and creative. Like Access. Or Excel. Can't figure how I could make Excel creative or fun? Try taking one of my classes. The pre-requisite, however, is that you have to have a sense of humor and be prepared to interject as many bad jokes as possible.
We do have fun!
But this busy teaching schedule also has to allow for the occasional corporate training outside of our area, which is why I mentioned the other counties. I'm proud to have been enlisted from time to time by the state of Oregon, City governments, and County governments to train employees on certain pieces of software. So a few times a quarter, I'm hitting the road to go spread my message of "learn and have fun" to as many people as I can.
And somehow in the middle of all of this, I'm working on websites. Thank god that a) you can do this from anywhere if you have a laptop and an internet connection, and b) I have a few very talented people that help me get things done when it's apparent I can't clone myself.
And I also end up training and troubleshooting for other web designers who are trying to learn the trade or dig their way out of a hairy situation. Let's face it, coding can test the patience of a saint... and I don't claim to be a saint. But I do have this innate ability to play detective, so... just call me Sherlock.
So, as you've probably noticed, the time stamp on this post is around 1:30 in the morning. That's my "me" time, apparently... but since being busy is not something you want to complain about in an economy that's tanked so far, it may be years before we're back to normal... I'll take the crazy busy schedule for as long as I hold out.
And as long as I can train people to help me hold out.
So... when are you signing up for one of my classes?
